Bima Arya Warns of Electoral Disaster if Population Administration Data is Not Properly Managed
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto has warned of an electoral disaster in the general election (pemilu) process if population administration (adminduk) data is not accurate and properly integrated.
This is because the current population data shows cases of deceased individuals still registered as voters, along with several other issues.
“Often, in every election and regional head election, we face the same issues, such as dead people still registered, for example, and data not reaching voters, and so on,” Bima said during a hearing with Commission II of the House of Representatives on Monday (20/4/2026).
According to Bima, the quality of democracy greatly depends on the tidiness of updating and synchronising population data.
This politician from the National Mandate Party assessed that democracy will struggle to develop if data issues remain chaotic.
In addition to democratic interests, Bima stressed that accurate population data is also important in supporting law enforcement.
He mentioned that several criminal cases can be uncovered through coordination between police apparatus and the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration.
Bima added that strengthening the adminduk system is also in line with various national priority programmes, including within the government’s Asta Cita framework.
According to him, a strong population data foundation is key to implementing various national action plans and Ministry of Home Affairs programmes.
