Life is only once; do not be enslaved by material things. For that reason, it must have meaning. Jambi City (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto provided leadership character strengthening to hundreds of students at Jambi University (Unja) through a public lecture and book discussion at the Unja Rectorate on Wednesday. “Life is only once; do not be enslaved by material things. For that reason, it must have meaning,” said Bima Arya while delivering the material. He explained that the book titled Babad Desa, which he wrote, does not merely contain experiences during his tenure as Mayor of Bogor, but also includes political education as well as strategies for facing bureaucratic and societal dynamics. According to him, the younger generation needs to find their identity from an early age as provisions for organising the future, including in determining career choices or involvement in the political world. Bima Arya assessed that there are still many regional heads who are trapped in ceremonial activities, thus less optimally implementing work programmes. “As a result, until the end of their term, there are no prominent programmes due to the inability to maintain work rhythm and mobilise the bureaucracy,” he said. “Increase social interactions so that sensitivity in understanding people’s characters is honed, and do not hesitate as long as the steps taken are believed to be correct,” he added. Meanwhile, student from the Communication Science and Politics Study Programme at Unja, Ahmad Riansyah, appreciated the material presented. According to him, the exposition provides an overview of leadership challenges as well as the importance of hard work and discipline in carrying out mandates. “The material is interesting and provides understanding about challenges and ways to find solutions,” he said.
