Bima Arya Says Impact of Interior Ministry Office Fire on Residents' Homes

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto stated that residents’ homes were reportedly affected by the fire at Building D of the Directorate General for Village Governance at the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, on Monday (20/4/2026). “For the position of residents’ houses, it is temporarily reported that one house (of a resident) was affected on the garage side and the water tank,” said Bima Arya when confirmed by Kompas.com on Monday (20/4/2026). The fire was known to have started around 1:30 PM WIB from the area next to the clinic in Building D, which contained a pile of used goods. “Currently, the situation is under control and the fire extinguishing process from the Village Governance Building D point and the residents’ house behind the office has been completed,” said Bima Arya. Meanwhile, the Head of the Ministry of Home Affairs Information Centre, Beni Irawan, stated that the fire was first seen in that area before spreading to other floors. “The fire initially appeared in the place where used goods were piled up, gradually growing larger and causing a fire on the 1st and 2nd floors of Building D,” Beni said. The Secretary of the Directorate General for Village Governance at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Murtono, explained that the fire did not engulf the entire building, but only parts of rooms on several floors. Building D itself has four floors, with the affected points on the 1st and 2nd floors, including the cooperative room, clinic, work rooms, and server room. Nevertheless, the Ministry of Home Affairs assured that no strategic documents were burned. Murtono emphasised that important documents are stored in another building. “There are no strategic documents affected. Because our strategic documents are in Building B,” he said. As many as 75 personnel from the South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-Department (Gulkarmat) were deployed to the location. The extinguishing process began around 1:47 PM WIB, shortly after the report was received at 1:38 PM WIB.
