Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) Bima Arya Sugiarto has stressed the importance of continuity in leadership as a key to successful development. He stated that personal and sectoral egos should be set aside.

He made these remarks during a Welcome Dinner for the 2026 Regional Leadership Consolidation Course (KPPD) Batch III at the National Resilience Institute of the Republic of Indonesia (Lemhannas RI), Trigatra Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday (14/7/2026).

During the event, Bima highlighted the tendency of some regional heads to prioritise their own programmes while ignoring the achievements of previous leaders. According to him, continuity is a fundamental foundation for a nation’s progress.

“The key to the success of Singapore, China, and others is sustainability,” he said in a written statement on Wednesday (15/7/2026).

He cited the leadership transition in Singapore as an example of how to maintain the direction of development. He noted that a change in leadership there does not sever ongoing programmes but instead strengthens ideology and development agendas.

“The leadership transition in Singapore not only runs smoothly but also reinforces ideology and development programmes. There is no sectoral or programmatic ego there,” Bima explained.

Furthermore, Bima added that a leader should not merely pursue existence, achievements, or recognition, but must also be a figure who provides inspiration and creates space for contemplation for others.

He expressed hope that the learning process undertaken by the KPPD participants, including the debriefing at Lemhannas RI and future learning from Singaporean leaders, would be part of a journey towards more meaningful leadership quality.

Also in attendance were the Governor of Lemhannas RI Ace Hasan Syadzily, Chairman of the Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC) Filda C. Yusgiantoro, Secretary of PYC Amelia Yusgiantoro, Chairman of the PYC Advisory Board Inka B. Yusgiantoro, senior and junior high-ranking officials of Lemhannas RI, and members of PYC.

From the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), the Head of the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) Sugeng Hariyono and Secretary of BPSDM Afrijal Dahrin were also present.
