N had previously gained prominence as the officer who rescued Bilqis Ramadhani (4.5) who was briefly abducted in Jambi. His name had circulated online after he exposed the kidnapping case of Bilqis and the baby trafficking network. Now IPtU N has been designated a suspect in the shooting of a minor.
“The actions of our officer in the field will be properly reviewed by Propam to determine whether his actions were appropriate or not,” Makassar City Police Chief , Kombes Pol Arya Perdana told reporters on Wednesday (4/3).
According to Arya, Iptu N went to the scene alone. Meanwhile, the crowd involved in the brawl, which was out of control, forced Iptu N to fire a warning shot into the air. “Indeed there was action when the weapon suddenly discharged unintentionally, but this also constitutes negligence which we will investigate both ethically and criminally,” he said.
As a result of the incident, the victim died on the way to Bhayangkara Hospital in Makassar. The victim had received medical treatment at a nearby hospital before passing away.
Meanwhile, Propam personnel are still questioning Iptu N. However, Arya stressed that there will be no cover-up in the handling of the case.
“Iptu N is still under investigation; please leave that to us. We will not cover up, I urge the public to monitor developments in both criminal and ethical aspects, and ensure it is processed in both domains,” he concluded. (mir/dal) [Video CNN]
