Billiard center employees protest

BOGOR: About 100 billiard center employees staged a rally to protest Bogor mayor Iswara Natanegara's decision to ban operations during Ramadhan.

"We need money in the fasting month and also to celebrate Idul Fitri ... Billiards is not entertainment, but sports," one of them said.

Bogor administration economics and development head Idih O. Wiharja, said the mayor could not meet the demand because the decision to temporarily close all entertainment centers was based on a meeting involving local leaders, including the police and the municipal council.

The protesters, unsatisfied with the answer, braved the rain and continued the rally at the town council about 500 meters from the town hall.

Councillor Eman Sulaeman said that if billiards was categorized as entertainment, and not a sport, then it should be closed during Ramadhan.--JP
