Bill on medical practitioners
Bill on medical practitioners
JAKARTA: The House of Representatives is hoping to advance a
bill focusing on medical practitioners, which aims to protect the
public, while improving legal certainty in the health services.
The proposal was raised by Ahmad Sanusi, vice chairman of the
House Commission VII on Health, at the House plenary session in
Jakarta on Tuesday.
Ahmad said that Law No.23/1992 has maximally regulated medical
practitioners. "The government's role is too dominant even
though, in reality, the health issue develops dynamically," he
said.
Ahmad said the medical practitioners have been equipped with
support from the code of ethics, but are also considered
incapable of accommodating the public's sense of fairness.
He said that a new law is needed to adjust the development of
medical personnel and the rising trend of complaints regarding
health services through the mass media, professional
institutions, courts and consumers' foundation. -- Antara
