Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has revealed the story of his initial introduction to sex predator Jeffrey Epstein while testifying before a panel of United States Congress members. Gates said he first met Epstein in 2011, three years after the sexual predator pleaded guilty to child prostitution. He was introduced to Epstein by a trusted individual in his professional and philanthropic life. According to Gates, Epstein claimed he could raise billions of dollars to support the mission of his charitable foundation, the Gates Foundation. When first introduced to Epstein, Gates admitted he was aware of the legal troubles plaguing Epstein but did not know the full extent of the crimes he had committed. “I accepted the introduction without conducting the thorough due diligence that I should have done,” Gates stated. Epstein subsequently assembled a group of prospective donors in 2014. However, Gates realised his communications with Epstein to secure funding had reached a dead end. “At that point, I concluded that Epstein would not keep his promises. I told him we would not proceed and ceased communication with him. No charitable giving vehicle was established and no funds were raised,” Gates said. According to Gates, his meetings with Epstein never resulted in any donations. He said Epstein once exploited information about his affair as a bargaining chip to re-establish a relationship with Gates. “I learned that Epstein had become aware of sensitive information about my personal life, including the fact that I was unfaithful in my marriage,” the 70-year-old said. “This affair had nothing to do with my interactions with Epstein, but it was deeply painful for my family,” Gates explained. Expressing regret over knowing Epstein, Gates told the closed-door meeting with the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee that he wished he had never met Epstein. He stated he supports the release of the ‘Epstein files’ and demands justice for all his victims. “I support the disclosure of all Epstein files and strongly hope that, through your efforts and those of others fighting for their rights, the victims of Epstein’s crimes will receive the justice they deserve,” Gates said. Gates stated he never witnessed Epstein committing any crimes. He also denied ever abusing anyone. “I want to state clearly: I never witnessed or had any indication that Epstein was engaged in ongoing criminal activity,” Gates said in his testimony. “I never visited his island, his ranch, or his home in Florida. I never abused anyone. Although he tried to forge a personal relationship, I was never interested and never reciprocated,” Gates added.
