Bill Gates meets Mahathir
KUALA LUMPUR (DPA): Microsoft Corporation chairman Bill Gates met the Malaysian cabinet of ministers yesterday and offered helpful tips on how to embark on creating an electronic government.
He also separately met Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, the prime mover behind Malaysia's plan to create a 750-square- kilometer information technology (IT) zone, called the Multimedia Supercorridor, south of the capital city.
Gates, possibly the world's richest man, is a member of a panel of experts and prominent IT business leaders advising the Malaysian government on how to go about creating the project, which is expected to be fully developed by 2020.
Mahathir told reporters after his 40-minute meeting with Gates that the Microsoft chairman had pledged "maximum investment" in the project, but declined to give more details.
