BIJB Kertajati confident in achieving 2.5 million annual passenger target
West Java International Airport (BIJB) Kertajati management in Majalengka, West Java, is optimistic that the target of approximately 2.5 million aircraft passengers per year at the facility can be realised. BIJB President Director Ronald H. Sinaga, in a statement received in Majalengka on Friday, said the target serves as the basis for promoting the airport’s operational independence. According to him, once the passenger number reaches that figure, the airport’s operations can proceed without depending on government budget support. “If we reach 2.5 million to 4 million passengers, operations can run and obligations can be repaid,” he said. He mentioned that the initial target being pursued now is in the range of 2 million to 2.5 million passengers per year. Ronald assessed that the target is realistic with support from various parties for the development of Kertajati Airport. “Support comes from the central government, provincial government, to local government,” he stated. He revealed that several strategies for Kertajati Airport have been conveyed to the central government to strengthen the airport’s operations. One proposed strategy is the implementation of a multi-airport system concept through a flight traffic sharing scheme. “The multi-airport system means we share, not relocate,” he said. He explained that through this scheme, some flight slots from the main airport can be diverted to Kertajati. For example, he continued, on routes with high frequency, some flight schedules can be diverted to that airport. “If there’s a route up to 10 times a day, why not divert one or two to Kertajati,” he said. In addition, BIJB has received support from the Ministry of Transportation in the form of a letter to airlines and related agencies to encourage flights from Kertajati. “Now it’s time for implementation. We hope all this can be carried out soon,” he said.
