Digital transformation continues to reshape the face of modern industry. Big data has become one of the main pillars in strategic decision-making. This phenomenon opens up significant opportunities for the younger generation to enter and build careers in data-based fields that are increasingly needed across various sectors.

Big data refers to the ability to collect, process, and analyse large volumes of data to produce accurate and valuable insights. Currently, its utilisation is not limited to technology companies but extends to the financial sector, healthcare, e-commerce, and even government.

According to a Statista report, approximately 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are produced worldwide every day. This condition makes data an important asset, where companies that can manage it optimally gain a competitive edge in the market.

Bryan Givan, Head of the Universitas Nusa Mandiri (UNM) Jatiwaringin campus, emphasised that big data is no longer just a trend but a primary need in the digital era.

“Companies today no longer rely solely on intuition. Data forms the basis for strategic decision-making. Students with data analysis skills will have a competitive advantage in the job market,” he stated in a release received on Sunday (19/4/2026).

He added that the younger generation needs to equip themselves with data analysis skills, statistics, and an understanding of technology to transform data into valuable and solution-oriented information.

“As a Digital Business Campus, UNM offers educational programmes relevant to industry needs. In the Data Science programme, students are equipped with the ability to process large-scale data, statistical analysis, building predictive models, and data visualisation,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Information Systems programme focuses on integrating technology into business processes, database management, and applying data-based information systems in modern company operations.

Bryan stressed that the power of big data lies not only in its technical aspects but also in the ability to generate insights with real impact.

“Students who can turn data into strategic insights will become highly sought-after talent. They do not just read data but also provide solutions for business development,” he said.

UNM, as a Digital Business Campus, continues to commit to producing adaptable, innovative young generations ready to face technology-based industry challenges. Through a curriculum aligned with workforce needs, students are prepared to become outstanding professionals in the digital economy era.

“With mastery of big data from their university days, the younger generation has great opportunities to build promising careers while contributing to driving the growth of modern data-based industries,” he concluded.
