Bicara Udara Launches Clean Air Policy Competition for University Students Across Indonesia

The issue of air pollution in Indonesia remains a challenge requiring cross-sector collaboration. Beyond the government, academics, the business world, and the community, the younger generation is considered to have a strategic role in presenting evidence-based policy ideas to drive improvements in air quality. As part of efforts to broaden participation, Bicara Udara has launched Biru Voices: Clean Air Policy Competition, a policy brief writing competition inviting active diploma, bachelor’s, and undergraduate students from across Indonesia to formulate data-driven clean air policy recommendations. Registration and submission of works are open from 19 June to 24 July 2026. Through this competition, Bicara Udara aims to foster a new generation of clean air advocates who not only understand the problem of air pollution but are also capable of translating field findings into relevant, applicable, and impactful policy recommendations. Co-Founder of Bicara Udara, Novita Natalia, stated that the competition serves as a platform for students to hone their analytical skills while contributing to public policy formulation. ‘Through the Clean Air Policy Competition, students can sharpen their analytical abilities and the drafting of public policy recommendations or policy briefs, while simultaneously contributing to the discussion on air pollution solutions,’ said Novita. Participants are required to prepare a policy brief based on one of four sub-themes: fiscal instruments and financing for air pollution control, governance reform and institutional coordination for air quality, policy interventions on emission sources, and public health policy and the protection of vulnerable groups. Each team, consisting of a maximum of three students from the same university, must compile a policy brief document according to a specified format. Additionally, participants are asked to create Instagram Reels content addressing air pollution issues based on their chosen sub-theme as part of public education efforts.
