BIAS 2026 Kicks Off with Expanded HPV Vaccination for Boys

Health workers administered vaccines to students during the 2026 School Child Immunisation Month (BIAS) at SD Negeri 03 Kebon Baru, Tebet, Jakarta, on Monday (10/8/2026). As August begins, the government has relaunched the annual BIAS programme, which aims to provide follow-up immunisations to extend protection and strengthen children’s immunity against diseases such as measles, rubella, and cervical cancer. In this year’s BIAS implementation, first-grade students received the measles-rubella vaccine, while fifth-grade students were given the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. In addition to vaccination, students underwent free health screenings, including growth and development monitoring, dental and oral examinations, ear checks, and health history tracing. Every school-age child must be ensured to receive complete routine immunisation. Immunisation is not only provided during infancy and under the age of two but must also be supplemented with booster doses at primary school age. During the August 2026 BIAS, the Ministry of Health officially began the initial introduction of the HPV vaccine for 11-year-old boys. This HPV vaccination programme for boys is being implemented in stages across three provinces: DKI Jakarta, the Special Region of Yogyakarta, and Bali. The return of BIAS 2026 is part of efforts to complete immunisation for school-age children, with vaccine targets adjusted according to grade and age.
