Biak Police Provide Trauma Healing to Residents Affected by Bomb Explosion

The Biak Numfor Police District has deployed 36 personnel to provide trauma healing to residents affected by a bomb explosion, suspected to be a remnant of World War II, in Biak. The Deputy Chief of Biak Numfor Police, Commissioner Jebelina Walli, stated on Wednesday that the 36 personnel involved are female police officers who have been divided into three groups to conduct daily trauma healing sessions.

The activities, carried out at two different displacement sites, aim to help alleviate the trauma experienced by the residents, especially children. “This is a form of the National Police’s concern for the psychological condition of the community following the incident. Through the humanist approach implemented by the female officers of the Biak Numfor Police, it is hoped that they can provide motivation and moral support to help restore a sense of security and reduce the ongoing impact of trauma,” said Commissioner Jebelina.

Speaking from Jayapura, the Deputy Chief of Biak Numfor Police added that during the support sessions, particularly for children, personnel engaged them through play and singing. The trauma healing activities are being conducted at two locations: the Biak Numfor Civil Service Agency (Satpol-PP) office and Hotel Mapia, running from 09:00 to 17:00 WIT.

In addition to providing trauma healing, police personnel are also distributing snacks and basic necessities to the affected residents, according to Commissioner Jebelina Walli. The explosion of the suspected WWII-era bomb in Biak on Sunday (31/5) resulted in six deaths, three people reported missing, and damage to nine houses.
