BI West Kalimantan Strengthens QRIS Payment System Digitalisation at Border
Bank Indonesia (BI) West Kalimantan Province is strengthening the digitalisation of payment systems in the Indonesia-Malaysia border region through the expansion of the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS). This financial digitalisation push includes QRIS Cross Border to support easier, safer, and more efficient cross-border transactions for the public and business operators, said Reynaldi Akbar Ariesha, Deputy Head of the Bank Indonesia West Kalimantan Representative Office, in Pontianak on Monday. The effort was realised through the Layanan Perbankan Nusantara (LENTERA) Batas Negeri 2026 programme held at the Entikong Cross-Border Post (PLBN) in Sanggau Regency. The programme is a synergy between Bank Indonesia, local government, banks, vertical agencies, and various stakeholders to strengthen central banking services in border areas. In addition to reinforcing the use of the Rupiah as a symbol of national sovereignty, Bank Indonesia continues to expand digital payment acceptance through QRIS and QRIS Cross Border so that the public and businesses can transact more practically, including in economic activities between Indonesia and Malaysia. As of May 2026, the number of QRIS merchants in West Kalimantan has reached more than 539,000, with the majority being micro-business operators. This achievement demonstrates the increasingly widespread adoption of digital payment systems as a fast, secure, and efficient transaction tool. ‘Through QRIS Cross Border education, we hope that economic transactions in the border region can take place more easily and in an integrated manner, thereby boosting trade activity and increasing the competitiveness of MSMEs,’ he said.
