BI states QRIS usage is expanding further in East Kalimantan by 2026
Samarinda (ANTARA) - The Bank Indonesia Representative Office for East Kalimantan Province states that the non-cash ecosystem in early 2026 is increasingly developing in East Kalimantan, marked by the use of QRIS achieving a record positive performance with a sharp increase in the number of users and an ever-widening reach among merchants.
The Head of the Bank Indonesia Representative Office for East Kalimantan Province, Jajang Hermawan, in Samarinda on Thursday, revealed that by January 2026, the number of QRIS users in the Etam Continent has surpassed 859,200 people.
“This figure shows positive growth compared to the December 2025 position, which was recorded at 850,800 users. This reflects the increasing level of trust and reliance of East Kalimantan’s society on digital transactions,” Jajang said.
Jajang stated that this growth is in line with the readiness of business actors. BI data shows that the number of merchants adopting QRIS grew from 798,200 in December 2025 to 808,000 units in January 2026.
According to Jajang, this expansion is a crucial pillar in strengthening the independence of the regional digital economy.
“The rapid adaptation by business actors is not just following trends, but a strategic step to improve operational efficiency and transaction transparency,” he said.
On the other hand, BI East Kalimantan is also monitoring the dynamics of cash circulation. In the same period, the banking sector in East Kalimantan recorded a net inflow condition (money entering banks greater than money leaving) of Rp2.9 trillion.
This net inflow condition provides a positive signal for regional economic stability.
“This indicates that banking liquidity at the start of the year remains very well maintained. Although the public’s transaction patterns are shifting massively towards digital, conventional economic activities remain dynamic and controlled,” Jajang said.
