Makassar (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia (BI) South Sulawesi is partnering with content creators to strengthen literacy regarding Sharia economics and Sharia finance within the community.

“One of the steps being taken is engaging content creators, influencers, and the media through the Training of Trainers (ToT) for Sharia Economic and Financial Content,” said the Deputy Representative of Bank Indonesia South Sulawesi, Aswin Gantina, in Makassar on Wednesday.

He stated that strengthening Sharia economic and financial literacy is part of BI’s support in realising Indonesia’s goal of becoming a global centre for the Sharia economy and finance.

According to him, literacy serves not only to increase public understanding of Sharia principles, products, and services but also to encourage economic behaviour changes that are more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable.

“Amidst the rapid development of information technology, the public’s information consumption patterns have changed. Whereas previously people obtained more information through newspapers and television, digital and social media have now become the primary sources of information,” Aswin remarked.

Therefore, he continued, the delivery of information regarding Sharia economics and finance must be conducted using a more creative, relevant, and easily understandable approach for all layers of society.

Aswin emphasised that the success of communication is determined not only by the quality of the content but also by the context of its delivery. He noted that many failures in public communication occur due to a mismatch between content and context.

“Strong content is not always effective without the support of the right context. Therefore, we want content creators and the media to not only produce interesting content but also to be able to convey Sharia economic and financial messages that meet the needs of the community,” he said.

He explained that South Sulawesi possesses great potential in developing the halal ecosystem from upstream to downstream. The role of the media and content creators is considered vital in introducing halal products and services to the public, ranging from the culinary and fashion sectors to tourism.

BI is also encouraging digital creators to highlight various Sharia economic issues that are closely related to daily life. One such example is the advantage of Sharia financing, which is not directly affected by fluctuations in benchmark interest rates.

“Many aspects of daily life can actually serve as Sharia economic content. For instance, Sharia financing where instalments remain fixed until fully paid, thus remaining unaffected by changes in interest rates. This is useful information that is close to the community,” he explained.

Meanwhile, an academic from UIN Alauddin Makassar, Dr. Nasrullah Bin Sapa, LC., MM., who served as a speaker in the event, invited participants to begin recognising various aspects of Sharia economics and finance that are present in daily life and have the potential to become digital educational content.

This activity is part of Bank Indonesia’s strategy to expand the dissemination of Sharia economic and financial information through collaboration with the media and the digital creative ecosystem in South Sulawesi.
