BI records 2.9 million QRIS transactions in Bangka Belitung
Bank Indonesia (BI) has recorded that the volume of Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) transactions in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province reached approximately 2.9 million transactions up to July 2026.
Deputy Governor of BI Ricky Perdana Gozali said in Pangkalpinang on Friday that the transactions were supported by the increasingly widespread use of non-cash payments among the public and business operators.
“Up to July 2026, the number of QRIS merchants has reached more than 196,000 merchants with more than 262,000 users, and the volume has reached approximately 2.9 million transactions,” he said during the Explore Babel 2026 event in Pangkalpinang.
According to Ricky, the majority of QRIS merchants in Bangka Belitung are micro-enterprises, numbering around 125,000 merchants, while small enterprises account for around 30,000 merchants.
The data shows that payment digitalisation is increasingly becoming part of the economic activity of small and micro enterprises in Bangka Belitung.
In addition to the development of digital payments, Bangka Belitung also has a large base of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Ricky noted that more than 132,000 MSMEs in the region produce a variety of products, ranging from processed marine products, crafts and fashion to woven textiles.
He said this potential needs to be accompanied by improvements in product quality and packaging, access to financing, digital payments and market expansion so that MSMEs can move up the value chain.
Meanwhile, Bangka Belitung’s economy grew by 4.1 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, while the national economy grew by 5.29 percent.
“On the other hand, tin mining activities and exports of leading commodities still face challenges, so economic diversification and increased value addition are necessary for the region,” he said.
Ricky said Bangka Belitung’s economic growth was supported by the construction sector, accommodation and food and beverage services, as well as the performance of agriculture and trade supported by palm oil and fisheries commodities.
Meanwhile, inflation in Bangka Belitung in July 2026 was recorded at 2.62 percent year-on-year and remained within the national inflation target range.
He said Explore Babel serves as a platform to connect MSMEs with the market while encouraging transactions, collaboration and local product development.
“This is where Explore Babel is present as a space for transactions, collaboration and impact creation,” he said.
Explore Babel 2026 features more than 100 MSMEs with a variety of leading products while also promoting the tourism sector, halal culinary, the green economy and environmental sustainability.
BI, Ricky said, will continue to synergise with local governments and strategic partners to maintain inflation, expand the digitalisation of the payment system, develop MSMEs and inclusive financial economics, and encourage new sustainable sources of economic growth.
