BI Rate Hike: Will Toyota Car Loan Repayments Rise?
Bank Indonesia’s BI Rate hike is beginning to impact various sectors, including the vehicle financing industry. Consumers planning to purchase new cars on credit, particularly in the coming months, may face higher monthly repayments. Bank Indonesia has officially raised the BI Rate by 50 basis points to 5.25%. Typically, such rate adjustments lead to loan interest rate changes in the banking and financing sectors, including motor vehicle loans. ‘The BI Rate increase certainly poses challenges for the vehicle financing industry, including Toyota’s financing,’ said Lina Christie, Financial Controller Division Head at Toyota Astra Financial Services, to Kompas.com on Tuesday (26 May 2026). This means consumers buying new cars on credit in the coming months may face higher loan interest rates compared to those who purchased at the start of the year when rates were lower. ‘As a financing company, we will continue monitoring market developments and ensure our financing schemes remain competitive,’ Lina stated. However, Lina noted that demand for vehicles remains strong, particularly for brands with good resale value, efficiency, and extensive service networks. Therefore, several leasing companies are expected to implement various strategies, such as special interest rate programmes, flexible tenures, and lower down payments to sustain auto sales. ‘We are committed to providing attractive interest rates and programmes in line with market conditions to continue supporting Toyota sales and helping consumers access affordable and sustainable financing solutions,’ Lina added.
