BI: QRIS used by 65.77 million users and accepted by 44.86 million merchants
Bank Indonesia (BI) has recorded that as of June 2026, QRIS has been used by 65.77 million users and accepted by 44.86 million merchants, with 96.68 percent of them being MSMEs.
BI considers that the expansion of QRIS not only facilitates transactions but also encourages MSMEs to become increasingly connected to the digital economic and financial ecosystem.
“QRIS is no longer just a fast, easy, cheap, safe, and reliable digital payment tool, but QRIS has become the main entry point for MSMEs into the digital financial ecosystem,” said BI Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta in Jakarta on Friday.
Digital transformation is seen as increasingly important for improving productivity, expanding markets, and encouraging MSMEs to move up a class amid the rapid development of the digital economy.
To that end, BI continues to encourage MSMEs to go digital through three main strategies: e-farming through digital farming to improve productivity and efficiency, e-commerce through MSME onboarding to expand digital market access, and e-financing through the Financial Information Recording Application Information System (SIAPIK) to strengthen financial report recording and financing access.
Filianingsih emphasised the importance of strengthening the digital innovation ecosystem to drive MSME transformation and competitiveness.
BI continues to strengthen these efforts, one of which is through the development of the Digital Innovation Centre of Indonesia (PIDI), which connects talent, innovators, industry, government, and strategic partners to produce digital solutions that are relevant and applicable in the real sector, including MSMEs.
PIDI is a manifestation of synergy between BI, the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and strategic partners in accelerating innovation and national digital talent development.
For MSMEs, PIDI serves as a platform for producing applied digital solutions that are easy to adopt and can be widely replicated to improve productivity and efficiency, as well as expand market access and financing.
“With empowered talent, implementable innovation, and a mutually reinforcing ecosystem, we are optimistic that Indonesian MSMEs will continue to transform, grow, and move up a class, as well as support increasingly inclusive and sustainable economic growth,” said Filianingsih.
On Friday (21/8), BI held an Innovation Talk titled “Accelerating MSME Digital Transformation: Integration of Digital Innovation Towards MSMEs Moving Up a Level” as part of the 2026 Karya Kreatif Indonesia (KKI) series.
The Innovation Talk featured speakers from BI’s Payment System Policy Department, namely Fitria Irmi Triswati, young innovator PIDI finalists Irpan Rambe and Fahrul Hadi Kusuma, as well as a BI-assisted MSME in horticultural agriculture, Pipit Candra, founder of Bernard Tani.
The speakers shared perspectives and experiences on utilising digital innovation to improve business performance, expand markets, open financing access, and encourage MSMEs to move up a class.
The discussion also emphasised the importance of utilising MSME digital data by the banking industry and strengthening MSME digital recording to improve efficiency, governance, and financing access.
BI stated that it will continue to strengthen synergy with all stakeholders to accelerate MSME digital transformation.
With the spirit of Beudaya MeusareSare or Berdaya Bersama-sama (Empowered Together), digital transformation is expected to produce MSMEs that are increasingly adaptive, innovative, and competitive in order to grow and move up a class, as well as become a source of Indonesia’s economic growth going forward.
