Bank Indonesia (BI) recorded that the volume of digital transactions using the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard, or QRIS, reached 12.55 billion nationwide during the first half of 2026, representing growth of 100.12 per cent compared to the same period in 2025.

"QRIS serves as a gateway to the digital economy as well as a game changer for the national digital economy and finance," said BI Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta on the sidelines of the Prima Executive Gathering 2026 in Nusa Dua, Badung Regency, Bali, on Thursday.

According to her, this achievement confirms that digital payments have now become a daily habit for Indonesians. Filianingsih detailed that by the end of June 2026, the value of QRIS transactions had reached Rp600.69 trillion, growing 89.52 per cent year-on-year. This growth signals that the public is increasingly comfortable leaving cash behind and switching to scan-based transactions via smartphones.

In terms of reach, the service is now used by approximately 66 million people and accepted at 44.86 million merchants across Indonesia. The central bank is targeting 70 million users and 47 million merchants by the end of 2026, meaning the mid-year figures already show strong momentum. For transaction volume, the full-year target is set at 17 billion, so the 12.55 billion transactions recorded in the first half represent nearly three-quarters of the goal.

The majority of QRIS merchants are micro, small, and medium enterprises that previously struggled to accept non-cash payments. With a code that can simply be printed on paper, small traders can now receive payments from various banks and digital wallets. This has also helped drive financial inclusion by broadening public access to formal financial services.

She added that QRIS’s strength lies in its integrated infrastructure and interoperability across all payment service providers. This allows a single code to be scanned by applications from any bank or payment provider without obstacles. QRIS is a national quick-response code standard that unifies various payment applications into a single format. Before QRIS existed, each provider had a different code, forcing merchants to display multiple payment stickers. The supporting ecosystem for QRIS has also expanded, now involving 96 banks, 60 non-bank institutions, and four switching companies that process payment transaction data. This structure demonstrates that connectivity among players in the national payment system is steadily strengthening.
