Kupang (ANTARA) - The Representative Office of Bank Indonesia (KPwBI) for East Nusa Tenggara Province recorded a transaction value of IDR 157 million through the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) during the Kupang Digital Fest (KDF) 2026. Head of Bank Indonesia’s East Nusa Tenggara Office, Adidoyo Prakoso, stated in Kupang on Sunday evening that this reflects the increasing use of digital payments among the public. “This achievement was obtained during the Kupang Digital Fest 2026, held on Friday and Saturday,” he said. He further explained that over the two-day event on 10-11 July 2026 at the East Nusa Tenggara Governor’s Office courtyard, 9,870 QRIS transactions worth IDR 1 were recorded at game booths prepared by the committee as part of education on non-cash payments. He said this achievement shows that digitalisation not only provides convenience for users but also drives economic activity and opens greater opportunities for local MSMEs to grow. Kupang Digital Fest 2026 is a collaboration between Bank Indonesia’s East Nusa Tenggara Office, the East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government, and the Kupang City Government to increase non-cash transaction acceptance through QRIS. The event also aimed to strengthen consumer protection literacy and expand the digital economy and finance in the region. Deputy Head of Bank Indonesia’s East Nusa Tenggara Office, Rio Khasananda, said the success of Kupang Digital Fest is measured not only by the implementation of the activities but also by the increased public habit of using QRIS for transactions. According to him, the growing number of people utilising QRIS and the increasing number of MSME players accepting digital payments are important indicators in driving the transformation of the payment system in East Nusa Tenggara. Meanwhile, East Nusa Tenggara Governor Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena expressed appreciation for the Kupang Digital Fest 2026, assessing that it could accelerate the region’s economic digitalisation. He considers QRIS a game changer that can strengthen East Nusa Tenggara’s economic growth through the expansion of easy, fast, and secure digital transactions. During the event, Bank Indonesia also handed over digitalisation assistance to community groups in Lembata and Alor Regencies and provided educational materials on QRIS, consumer protection, and Cinta Bangga Paham Rupiah to working partners. The series of activities also included an MSME bazaar, QRIS Taputar Championship, Drumband Taputar PeKA Competition, and discussions on digital payment transformation and cyber security. Bank Indonesia hopes the transaction achievements during Kupang Digital Fest 2026 can become a momentum to expand QRIS usage, strengthen MSME competitiveness, and encourage a safe and trusted digital transaction culture in East Nusa Tenggara Province.
