Serang (ANTARA) - The Banten Province Representative Office of Bank Indonesia (BI) has revealed that the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme impacts the economy by generating a turnover of Rp1 billion per month for each Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG).

Deputy Head of the BI Banten Representative Office, Rawindra Ardiansah, stated in Serang on Thursday that there are currently thousands of nutrition service points ready to drive the economy and absorb local logistics in the region.

“On average, based on data per SPPG, the economic turnover reaches Rp1 billion per month for MBG, and there are 1,084 SPPGs in Banten Province,” said Rawindra.

He explained that this highest increase in government consumption is driven by the implementation of priority programmes, including MBG, the Red and White Cooperative, and housing programmes.

Although government consumption is surging thanks to MBG and the Red and White Cooperative, Rawindra noted that, percentage-wise, Banten’s economic structure remains dominated by household consumption at 53 per cent, which is also boosted by major religious holidays.

Additionally, Banten’s economic growth of 5.64 per cent is supported by Gross Fixed Capital Formation (PMTB) or investment. Investor confidence is assessed as still high, in line with the continuation of various strategic projects from both government and private sectors.

“Meanwhile, Banten’s net export performance is recorded as slightly slowing compared to the previous period, although it remains in a positive trend,” he said.

This slowdown, Rawindra continued, is influenced by strategies adopted by entrepreneurs involving front-loading or bringing forward import schedules. This policy is taken to secure raw material stocks (inventory) amid concerns over supply chains due to global geopolitical dynamics.
