BI: Manufacturing Industry Performance Rises, in Expansion Phase in Q1 2026
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia (BI) recorded an increase in the performance of the manufacturing business field in the first quarter (Q1) of 2026, placing it in an expansion phase (index above 50 percent), as reflected in the higher BI Prompt Manufacturing Index (PMI).
Director of the BI Communication Department, Anton Pitono, stated in Jakarta on Friday that the BI PMI for the first quarter of 2026 was recorded at 52.03 percent, higher than the previous quarter’s 51.86 percent.
Based on its components, the Q1 2026 BI PMI was driven by finished goods inventory volume, production volume, and total order volume, all in expansion phases at 54.43 percent, 54.07 percent, and 53.20 percent, respectively.
By sub-business fields (sub-sectors), the BI PMI for most sub-sectors was also in expansion, with the highest index in the paper industry and paper products, printing, and recording media reproduction (57.27 percent), followed by the leather industry, leather products, and footwear (55.83 percent), as well as the food and beverage industry (55.33 percent).
For the second quarter of 2026, he said the performance of the manufacturing business field is projected to remain in the expansion phase and increase to 52.26 percent.
This expansion, according to him, will primarily be driven by production volume, finished goods inventory volume, and total order volume.
The majority of sub-sectors are projected to be in expansion, with the highest indices in the furniture industry, followed by the leather industry, leather products and footwear, and the food and beverage industry.
