Malang (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia’s Malang Representative Office (KPwBI Malang) continues to push micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to move up a class through various initiatives, one of which is hosting the flagship Sapta Rona Pesona (SRP) 2026 event on 30 July to 2 August 2026, centred in Malang City.

SRP 2026, which showcases creativity and flagship products, serves as a forum for synergy and collaboration in promoting economic inclusivity, MSME development, and the strengthening of digital transactions across the seven areas within KPwBI Malang’s working region.

Head of KPwBI Malang, Indra Kuspriyadi, stated in Malang, East Java, on Thursday that the staging of SRP 2026 unites the potential of Malang City, Malang Regency, Batu City, Pasuruan City, Pasuruan Regency, Probolinggo City, and Probolinggo Regency.

He said the integration of potential from these seven regencies and cities, presented at SRP 2026, is one of the main keys to maintaining the positive momentum of the regional economy.

“Amid global uncertainty, economic growth across BI Malang’s working region was recorded as solid and above the average growth of East Java and the nation,” he said.

He explained that in the first quarter of 2026, the economy in BI Malang’s working region grew by 6.36 per cent, while East Java grew 5.96 per cent and the national economy grew 5.61 per cent.

He emphasised that this strong economic growth momentum must be maintained, among other things by accelerating digital payment channels such as the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) to help MSMEs soar further and higher.

Indra noted that one indicator of the strengthening digital economy is the surge in QRIS transaction volume in KPwBI Malang’s working region, reaching 166 per cent compared with the previous year.

“Through our new tagline, WARM (warna, rasa, makna — colour, taste, meaning), we are here to bring colour to economic dynamics, foster a sense of nationalism, and deliver real meaning to the community,” he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Head of Bank Indonesia’s East Java Provincial Representative Office and BI Java Regional Coordinator Rifki Ismal emphasised that MSMEs are the main pillar of the economy, comprising 99 per cent of business units in Indonesia, contributing 62 per cent to national GDP, and absorbing 97 per cent of the workforce.

“In East Java, MSMEs contribute up to 60 per cent of GRDP and absorb 97 per cent of the workforce. Therefore, nurturing and upgrading MSMEs is the same as lifting the national economy as a whole,” said Rifki.

He detailed Bank Indonesia’s three strategic pillars for MSME development: corporatisation, by encouraging household MSMEs to become legally incorporated entities so they possess formal institutions as well as transparent and accountable financial reporting.

This is because, he continued, MSMEs have so far struggled to access banking funds, partly because they lack legal entity status.

In addition, there is capacity building, namely improving quality, competitiveness, and production scale so that MSME products not only serve local markets but are also ready to penetrate global markets.

Third, expanding financing access by encouraging integration between the banking sector and MSME players through business matching events and exhibitions to open up access to capital.

Rifki added that the Sapta Rona Pesona 2026 event forms part of the run-up to the national Karya Kreatif Indonesia (KKI) event on 20–23 August 2026 in Jakarta, as well as the Sharia Economic Festival (Fesyar) of Java, scheduled to take place in late September in Surabaya.
