Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo has assured that Indonesia’s external economic resilience remains strong in the face of global uncertainties. This was emphasised by Perry during the press conference of the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK) meeting this afternoon, Thursday (7/5/2026).

Indonesia’s external strength is supported by high economic growth. In the first quarter of 2026, the Indonesian economy recorded growth of 5.61%. In line with this, Indonesia’s trade balance in March 2026 also posted a surplus of US$5.5 billion. This is the 71st consecutive surplus month since May 2020.

Consequently, Perry sees foreign capital flows returning to the country.

“Foreign capital inflows also reached US$3.3 billion into SRBI and SBN up to 30 April after an outflow of US$1.7 billion in the first quarter of 2026,” said Perry.

Previously, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa revealed that foreign capital flows are now increasingly pouring into Indonesia. According to him, this condition should be a sign that the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar will strengthen.

Data from Purbaya up to the end of April 2026 shows that cumulative net foreign capital inflows to Indonesia have reached Rp10.4 trillion. This was mainly driven by inflows specifically in April 2026 alone, worth Rp38.5 trillion.

He said that the total inflow in April 2026 was supported by investor funds flowing into Government Securities (SBN) amounting to Rp13.4 trillion, although on a year-to-date basis, there is still an outflow of Rp11.7 trillion.

SRBI inflow of Rp42.2 trillion and year-to-date inflow of Rp72 trillion, while stocks still showed an outflow of Rp17 trillion in April 2026, with a total since January 2026 also at an outflow of Rp49.9 trillion.
