BI Governor Perry Warjiyo Resigns for Personal Reasons

Bank Indonesia (BI) has announced that Perry Warjiyo resigned from his position as Governor of Bank Indonesia on Sunday (25/7) voluntarily due to personal reasons. This was conveyed by BI Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti, who has now been appointed as the acting Governor of BI, during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday. According to Article 48 paragraph (1) letter (a) of Law Number 23 of 1999 concerning Bank Indonesia, as amended several times, most recently by Law Number 4 of 2026 concerning the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (P2SK), members of the BI Board of Governors cannot be dismissed during their term of office, except if the person concerned resigns. Destry added that on Sunday, BI held a Board of Governors Meeting (RDG) and appointed her, as BI Senior Deputy Governor, as the acting Governor of BI. The temporary appointment, according to her, is in accordance with Article 50 paragraph (2), which states that in the event of a vacancy in the position of Governor as referred to in paragraph (1) and a replacement has not yet been appointed, the Senior Deputy Governor shall carry out the duties of the Governor as acting Governor. “The current position, as we have conveyed, is the position of acting Governor, until a definitive appointment follows Article 40 and Article 42,” said Destry. Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi stated that President Prabowo Subianto has accepted the resignation of Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo and will follow up according to the mechanism stipulated in the Bank Indonesia Law. Prasetyo said in a press conference in Jakarta on Monday that the government officially received Perry’s resignation letter on Sunday (26/7). According to Prasetyo, President Prabowo accepted the resignation while expressing appreciation for Perry’s seven years of service leading the central bank. “Yesterday we officially received the resignation letter from the Governor of Bank Indonesia to the President, which will then be processed according to the applicable mechanisms and laws and regulations, especially referring to the Bank Indonesia Law,” said Prasetyo. He explained that the government will immediately follow up on the administrative process of Perry’s honourable dismissal through the issuance of a Presidential Decree (Keppres) as stipulated in the laws and regulations.
