BI Governor Perry Warjiyo Resigns for Personal Reasons
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia (BI) has stated that Perry Warjiyo’s resignation from the post of Governor of Bank Indonesia on Sunday (25/7) was done voluntarily for personal reasons.
This was conveyed by Senior Deputy Governor of BI Destry Damayanti, who has now been appointed as Acting Governor of BI, at a press conference in Jakarta on Monday.
Under Article 48 paragraph (1) letter (a) of Law Number 23 of 1999 on Bank Indonesia, as most recently amended by Law Number 4 of 2026 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (P2SK), a member of the BI Board of Governors may not be dismissed during their term of office, except among other reasons where the person concerned resigns.
Destry added that on Sunday, BI held a Board of Governors Meeting (RDG) and appointed herself as Senior Deputy Governor of BI to serve as Acting Governor of BI.
According to her, the interim appointment is in accordance with Article 50 paragraph (2), which states that in the event of a vacancy in the office of Governor as referred to in paragraph (1) where a replacement has not yet been appointed, the Senior Deputy Governor shall carry out the duties of the Governor as acting Governor.
“The current position, as we conveyed earlier, is that of acting Governor, until the definitive appointment follows Articles 40 and 42,” said Destry.
Minister of State Secretariat (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi stated that President Prabowo Subianto has received the resignation of Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo and will follow it up in accordance with the mechanism regulated under the Bank Indonesia Law.
Speaking at a press conference at the Bank Indonesia office in Jakarta on Monday, Prasetyo said Perry’s letter of resignation was officially received by the government on Sunday (26/7).
According to Prasetyo, President Prabowo accepted the resignation while also expressing appreciation for Perry’s seven years of service leading the central bank.
“Yesterday we officially received the letter of resignation from the Governor of Bank Indonesia addressed to the President, which will then follow the mechanism and applicable laws and regulations, particularly with reference to the Bank Indonesia Law,” said Prasetyo.
He explained that the government will immediately follow up on the administrative process of dismissing Perry honourably through the issuance of a Presidential Decree (Keppres) as regulated under the prevailing laws and regulations.
