BI Governor Outlines 3 Stages in Integrated MSME Entrepreneurship Transformation Programme to Create Jobs

Bank Indonesia (BI) has launched the Kick Off of the 2026 Integrated MSME Entrepreneurship Transformation Programme, in a bid to support job creation and strengthen the grassroots economy. BI Governor Perry Warjiyo stated that in the process of developing the business actors participating in this programme, there will be three stages that these MSME players must undergo. “(Stage) one is entrepreneurship education, and we will conduct certification. So those of you who graduate now, God willing, in two and a half months we will educate you on entrepreneurship,” Perry said at the Bank Indonesia office in the Thamrin area, Central Jakarta, Monday, 22 June 2026. He explained that the entrepreneurship stage itself has two aspects that each participant must fulfil. Namely, how to perfect the technical capabilities of their business, as well as the business development skills of these MSMEs. “For the technical skills and business skills, in two and a half months you will all be educated on those two. And we pray you pass the certification,” he said. After both aspects are met and certified, Perry explained that the next phase is a trial internship according to their expertise. For example, a barista will intern at a coffee shop or weaving experts will be connected with experienced designers. “So they will intern, trial. Truly practical. In cool terms, it’s sandboxing,” Perry said. The second stage is then evaluation, to check whether their entrepreneurship theory and practice are correct. For instance, a barista will be tested on whether their practice is correct and meets business needs. Meanwhile, for MSMEs producing bottled drinking water, they will be tested on the product processing methods down to the pH level of the bottled water they produce. “Is the theory correct, has the business entrepreneurship passed? When trying, is it correct when asked to make a macchiato, does it turn out as ordered? It might end up as a cafe latte or even tubruk coffee,” Perry said. “Then for those making bottled water for Islamic boarding schools, is the pH correct? Is the bottle attractive? Is it halal?” he added. After passing both stages, participants will enter the third stage, which is to be re-certified and provided with business capital.
