BI Governor Fit and Proper Test Likely Delayed Due to DPR Recess

Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) has spoken out regarding the plan for a fit and proper test for the candidate for Bank Indonesia (BI) governor, following Perry Warjiyo’s official resignation. Deputy Chairman of Commission XI, Mohamad Hekal, stated there are no immediate plans to conduct the fit and proper test as the DPR is currently in recess. “We have just entered the recess period, and the majority of DPR members are conducting working visits to their constituencies. So, if we force a test during the recess, not everyone will be present,” Hekal said. He stressed that all factions must be represented during the decision-making process for such a test. Hekal added that the fit and proper test could be scheduled after the DPR’s new session begins on 14 August. However, he noted that the process could be accelerated if President Prabowo Subianto sends the nomination letter for the candidates earlier. “If the President has already sent the letter, we can consider it with the DPR leadership to hold it as soon as possible,” he explained.
