BI Governor: Economic Growth Potential Expands with Stability
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), Destry Damogi, emphasised that the space for Indonesia’s economic growth has the potential to expand significantly if macroeconomic stability is well-maintained.
Following her inauguration at the Supreme Court, Destry reaffirmed the central bank’s future policy stance, which continues to prioritise stability amidst ongoing global uncertainty.
“Stability is very important to us. Because, certainly, by having a stable economy, the opportunities for economic growth will become increasingly wider,” Destry stated during a press conference at the Supreme Court, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Destry noted that the global conditions, which remain fraught with uncertainty, will have implications for Indonesia’s central bank policies in the short term.
“To achieve stability, we can work together. It is not something Bank Indonesia can do alone; we can invite collaboration through the ‘Merah Putih Synergy’, particularly in handling domestic issues such as inflation, which will certainly be a task for us at Bank Indonesia by continuously increasing synergy with relevant ministries and agencies,” said Destry.
In accordance with the mandate of the Law on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (P2SK), Destry stated that the central bank is tasked with promoting sustainable economic growth while simultaneously creating a conducive economic climate to drive real sector growth and job creation.
“We will certainly realise this through our policies, and we will continue to synergise with other relevant ministries and agencies. Because this is a shared responsibility,” she added.
On the same occasion, Aida S. Budiman was also inaugurated as the Senior Deputy Governor of BI, alongside Solikin M. Juhro as Deputy Governor of BI.
The appointments were established based on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Number 92/P of 2026, dated 1 September 2026, regarding the Dismissal and Appointment of the Board of Governors of Bank Indonesia.
