BI Governor Candidate Destry Reveals How to Help Government Pursue 8% Target

Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor candidate Destry Damayanti has expressed her commitment to supporting the government in achieving Indonesia’s economic growth target of 8%.

“We support the government. That is indeed the government’s plan,” said Destry after the fit and proper test at Commission XI of the DPR, Jakarta, Wednesday (26/8/2026).

Destry said that, in accordance with the mandate of the Financial Sector Development and Strengthening Law (UU P2SK), BI has been directed to support the creation of a conducive economic climate.

The creation of a conducive economic climate, as mandated by the P2SK Law, said Destry, of course requires the central bank to participate together with the government in maintaining an economic climate that can drive real sector growth and job creation.

“So our task is how we try to keep the economic climate conducive, meaning stability is maintained, then growth so that demand is strong and so on. Financing availability is also there. This is our homework,” Destry stressed.

Therefore, she said, BI will continue to play its role according to its mandate to help the government’s goal of bringing Indonesia a faster economic growth rate, such as pursuing the 8% economic growth target during the administration of President Prabowo Subianto.

“So this is actually just synergy. Synergy, make no mistake, does not mean we lose independence, no. Because we move together towards the same direction, of course according to our respective authorities,” she said.
