Jakarta (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia (BI) recorded foreign capital inflows into Bank Indonesia Rupiah Securities (SRBI) and Government Securities (SBN) reaching Rp19.02 trillion on 10 and 11 June 2026, following the increase in the BI-Rate to 5.50%. In detail, non-resident inflows into SRBI and SBN were recorded at Rp15.11 trillion and Rp3.91 trillion, respectively. “After the BI-Rate hike, foreign capital inflows experienced positive development, supported by the attractiveness of domestic financial instruments,” said BI Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti in a written statement on Friday. Destry also noted that foreign capital inflows occurred in Danantara’s international bonds, whose initial sale successfully reached Rp26.9 trillion. “This development shows investor confidence in domestic assets,” she said. The rupiah exchange rate on Friday (12/6) closed at Rp17,865-17,875 per US dollar (bid-ask), strengthening by 0.84% compared to the closing on 5 June 2026 at Rp18,010-18,020 per US dollar (bid-ask). Destry said this development reflects a positive market response to the central bank’s policy mix. The policies include not only the BI-Rate increase to 5.50%, but also strengthening the SRBI interest rate structure, providing hedging incentives for foreign investors, opening repo access to support banking liquidity, and increasing the intensity of rupiah and foreign exchange monetary operations. “These measures are also supported by close synergy between Bank Indonesia and the government,” Destry added. She said external resilience is further strengthened through financial cooperation between BI, the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA). Three agreements were reached, namely synergy to strengthen not only each country’s financial resilience but also broader regional financial stability, strengthening the Bilateral Currency Swap Agreement (BCSA), and strengthening the commitment to use local currencies in bilateral transactions through the expansion of Local Currency Transactions (LCT). Destry said this measure will reduce dependence on the US dollar and support rupiah exchange rate stability. She confirmed that BI will continue to be present in the market, optimise all policy instruments consistently and measurably, and strengthen coordination with the Government and various stakeholders to maintain rupiah exchange rate stability and strengthen the external resilience of the Indonesian economy. “With these developments, it is believed that the rupiah will continue to strengthen against the US dollar towards its fundamental level,” Destry concluded.
