BI Extends Credit Card Relaxation Policy Until End of 2026
Bank Indonesia (BI) has decided to extend its relaxed credit card billing policies as part of a pro-growth strategy to support the economy. As part of the monthly Board of Governors meeting in June 2026, the central bank extended several credit card provisions until 31 December 2026, from the previous deadline of 30 June 2026. The extended policies include maintaining the minimum credit card payment at 5% of the total bill and capping late payment fees at a maximum of 1% of the total bill, with an upper limit of Rp100,000. According to BI, the policy provides three key benefits for cardholders: maintaining household cash flow, easing the burden of payments, and offering flexibility in meeting daily needs. ‘Through the extension of the credit card policy, the public has more flexible room in economic activities,’ BI stated. The central bank added that the move is part of efforts to maintain purchasing power and support economic growth. ‘First, household consumption continues to move. Second, business activity also grows. Third, economic turnover becomes stronger, and economic growth becomes more sustainable,’ BI explained. The central bank assessed that the policy not only benefits credit card users but also supports the broader economy. ‘The extension of the credit card policy is one of Bank Indonesia’s steps so that the public can manage credit cards more calmly and in a controlled manner,’ BI concluded.
