BI Extends Credit Card Payment Relief Until End of 2026
Bank Indonesia (BI) has extended the relief on credit card bill payments until 31 December 2026. The policy has been extended several times and was originally scheduled to remain in effect until June 2026.
BI Governor Perry Warjiyo stated the policy is part of efforts to strengthen the digitalisation of the payment system to support economic growth.
“The policy sets the minimum payment by credit cardholders at 5 percent of the total bill and the late fee penalty at a maximum of 1 percent of the total bill, not exceeding Rp 100,000,” Perry said during the monthly board of governors’ meeting press conference on Thursday, 18 June 2026.
BI has also extended the tariff policy for the Bank Indonesia National Clearing System (SKNBI). The SKNBI tariff is set at Rp 1 from Bank Indonesia to banks, with a maximum SKNBI tariff of Rp 2,900 from banks to customers.
BI Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta added that the extension of credit card payment relief aims to encourage economic growth.
“This is because we know that pressure on people’s purchasing power has an impact on growth. We need to support growth because this payment system policy is pro-growth,” she said.
Filianingsih noted that credit card transaction volume has reached 45.4 million transactions, growing 8.6 percent annually. Meanwhile, the nominal value of credit card transactions reached Rp 42.9 trillion, growing 13.4 percent year-on-year.
According to Filianingsih, the policy can be utilised by the public, particularly the middle class, as a buffer for consumption smoothing. “It primarily helps the middle class to buffer consumption, and ultimately this is to support credit growth,” she said.
