BI Educates on CBP Rupiah and PeKA to Hundreds of Mothers in Tegal

Bank Indonesia (BI) Tegal, in Central Java, held an education session on Cinta, Bangga, dan Paham (CBP) Rupiah and Pelindungan Konsumen (PeKA) for hundreds of mothers in Kabupaten Tegal. The event took place at Pendopo Amangkurat, Pemkab Tegal, on Friday (22 May). The programme is a collaboration between BI Tegal and the Kabupaten Tegal PKK, targeting women, particularly housewives, to strengthen financial literacy and support inflation containment at the family level.

At least 450 PKK members from across Kabupaten Tegal participated. The women received instruction on prudent shopping, the use of local products, and awareness of scams in digital transactions.

GENDER STRATEGY: The head of BI Tegal, Bimala, emphasised that women shape family life and community life. In addition to managing household finances, women influence consumption patterns and drive local economies. “Women play a crucial role in supporting inflation control, notably through prudent consumption and the use of local products,” Bimala said.

Not only CBP Rupiah education and PeKA; the mothers were also invited to utilise local food ingredients such as locally grown garlic and tuna (ikan tongkol) prepared into healthy, economically valuable dishes. “Using local products not only helps the community’s economy, but also supports regional food security,” Bimala added.

Bimala gave an example of locally grown garlic, which has advantages over imported products. “One clove of local garlic is as potent as four imported cloves because its aroma and flavour are stronger,” she explained.

In addition to collaborating with the PKK, BI Tegal also worked with the Kabupaten Tegal Fisheries Service, inviting Chef Muto to educate participants on preparing ikan tongkol into appealing, value-added dishes.

CBP Rupiah Materials: Nilna Almuna, chair of the PKK in Kabupaten Tegal, said that beyond local food education, participants also received training on CBP Rupiah. They learned to identify genuine money using the 3D method: Look, Feel, and Inspect. “Participants were reminded to care for rupiah through the 5J movement: do not fold, do not crumple, do not scribble, do not staple, and do not leave money unattended,” she said.
