BI briefs public on fake money

YOGYAKARTA: Officials at Bank Indonesia's Yogyakarta branch met representatives of Yogyakarta market traders on Wednesday, informing them of the characteristics of genuine bank notes.

Amril Alif, the head of the office, said that the meeting was important to prevent the circulation of counterfeit notes.

Last year, the bank spotted 79 counterfeit notes worth Rp 4 million, but this year, from January to May alone, the bank spotted 63 notes worth Rp 3.9 million traded in the market. -- JP
