BI Banten confirms Eid al-Adha momentum won't trigger significant inflation spike

Serang (ANTARA) – BI’s Banten Regional Office forecasts that the Eid al-Adha period will not trigger a significant inflation spike in the region, unlike the usual price increases seen during Eid al-Fitr celebrations. BI Banten Regional Head Ameriza M Moesa said on Monday in Serang that this is due to more measured consumer patterns during Eid al-Adha compared to the more intense consumption during Ramadan. ‘Experience shows that Eid al-Adha’s inflationary impact is less than Eid al-Fitr. The fasting (sunnah) is brief, and consumption is not extravagant. So even if prices rise, it won’t be significant,’ said Ameriza. According to BI’s latest weekly Price Monitoring Survey (SPH), food commodity prices are currently under relative control. Ameriza explained that although recent data this week shows slight price movements after last week’s deflationary trend, the impact remains within safe limits. This optimism aligns with Banten’s positive inflation performance last month. BI recorded Banten’s inflation at 2.14% in April 2026, lower than the national rate of 2.42%. ‘In April, we managed to fall below the national rate. This is encouraging. One reason is the fading base effect from electricity tariff discounts that have now returned to normal,’ he added. Additionally, Ameriza noted that last month’s subdued inflation in Banten was heavily influenced by the stabilisation of food and beverage prices after they spiked earlier in March due to high demand during Eid al-Fitr.
