JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Bank Indonesia (BI) and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) are strengthening bilateral cooperation in central banking as a measure to maintain financial stability and enhance coordination amid global geopolitical challenges.

The cooperation is outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding signed by BI Governor Perry Warjiyo and BNM Governor Dato’ Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour on Monday (11/5/2026).

Perry stated that this cooperation marks an important milestone in strengthening the long-term relationship between the two central banks.

“This is evidence of the ongoing spirit to strengthen institutional relations and deepen bilateral cooperation between the two central banks, especially in the current challenging geopolitical landscape,” he said in a written statement on Monday.

The cooperation encompasses monetary policy, financial stability and macroprudential measures, payment systems and digitalisation, financial sector development, capacity-building initiatives, and information exchange.

“This is also our joint commitment to deepen cooperation in various existing central banking areas, as well as cooperation in new areas of mutual interest,” he added.

It is hoped that this Memorandum of Understanding will pave the way for a stronger and more synergistic partnership between the two central banks.

Both parties are also committed to continuously strengthening sustainable cooperation in the two countries.
