BHP to sign RI contract
MELBOURNE (Reuters): The Broken Hill Pty Co Ltd (BHP) on Tuesday indicated it was close to signing a deal with the Indonesian government to step up feasibility work for the Gag Island nickel deposit.
A report in The Australian newspaper said a contract of work for the nickel deposit, 150 km west of Irian Jaya, would be signed between the company and the Indonesian government on Thursday.
The spokesman said the deposit would only be attractive to BHP if further feasibility work confirmed the project would be near the lowest cost for nickel production in the world.
