Bhayangkara Day: Bamsoet urges Polri to be more professional and responsive

Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives Bambang Soesatyo has urged the National Police (Polri) to become an increasingly professional, modern, adaptive, and responsive institution as it commemorates its 80th Bhayangkara Day on 1 July 2026. Bamsoet, as he is familiarly known, stated that Polri’s eight decades of service should be used as momentum to accelerate its transformation towards being more precise (Presisi). “This momentum must be utilised to accelerate the Polri Presisi transformation so that it becomes more professional, modern, humanist, adaptive to technological developments, and increasingly trusted by the public. Public trust is the main capital for law enforcement and maintaining national stability,” he said. He explained that national security challenges are now increasingly complex alongside the rapid development of digital technology. According to him, this condition demands that Polri strengthen its digital forensic capabilities, improve the quality of human resources, expand international cooperation, and accelerate the integration of technology into the law enforcement system. “Polri’s transformation must go hand in hand with societal transformation. When crime utilises cutting-edge technology, law enforcement officers must also possess more advanced capabilities, tools, and systems to provide maximum protection to the public,” he said. The 15th Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly also emphasised that national security stability has a direct correlation with national economic growth. He noted that Indonesia is currently pushing for industrial downstreaming, infrastructure development, the digital economy, energy transition, and increased investment. The country therefore requires a police institution capable of ensuring business certainty. Consequently, he said, Polri’s role is increasingly strategic in supporting the national development agenda towards Golden Indonesia 2045. “Security is the foundation of development. Investors need legal certainty, the public needs a sense of safety, and business actors need stability. All of this requires a professional, responsive Polri that is able to cooperate with all elements of the nation,” he stated. These efforts have yielded results. A 2026 survey by Litbang Kompas recorded that the level of public trust in Polri reached approximately 82.4 per cent, an increase compared to the previous period. According to him, this achievement is important capital that must be maintained through consistency in service and fair law enforcement. “A Polri that is increasingly trusted will become a unifying force, a guardian of democracy, a keeper of economic stability, and a protector of the public in facing various future challenges,” he said.
