BGN: We Are Not Averse to Criticism

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Sony Sonjaya, claims that BGN is not averse to public criticism regarding the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. Sony says that criticism is seen as part of efforts to strengthen the agency’s governance for the future. “We are not averse to criticism. Rather, this serves as a reminder for us to continue making improvements and ensure that all processes run in accordance with the rules,” he said when meeting protesters from the Indonesian Youth Network (JMI), quoted from a press statement, Friday, 22 May 2026. Consequently, every aspiration expressed by the public or every protest participant will be forwarded to the relevant unit, including BGN’s Main Inspectorate. “We receive these aspirations openly. What the public regards as input and attention will of course be followed up in line with the applicable mechanisms,” he added. BGN emphasises that all processes of budget management and procurement of goods/services are conducted based on the principles of good governance, prioritising accountability and layered internal oversight. Sony noted that BGN appreciates the expression of aspired concerns and the direct dialogue to build communication between public institutions and the community. BGN also ensures that every information and report that emerges will be followed up. “Through internal oversight mechanisms in accordance with the applicable rules, and prepared to coordinate with law enforcement authorities if necessary,” said Sony.
