Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has recorded that around 2,700 Nutrition Service Units (SPPG) in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions have been completed and will be prioritised for phased activation starting September 2026.

BGN Head Sudaryono said 3T regions are a priority in expanding the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) service after improvements to SPPG units that are currently operating.

“Currently, based on our records, there are around 2,700 in 3T regions that are ready, meaning these kitchens are already built,” Sudaryono said after a limited coordination meeting on improving MBG governance at the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs office in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He said the activation of SPPG units in 3T regions is planned to be prioritised starting September 2026 and will be carried out in phases based on the needs and readiness of each region.

“Those who need it most are the 3T regions, so 3T first. God willing, in September we will prioritise them for activation,” he said.

The priority regions mentioned include Papua, Maluku, North Maluku, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

However, he stressed that completed kitchens will not automatically begin operating because BGN must first ensure governance readiness and beneficiary data.

According to Sudaryono, before an SPPG is activated, BGN will verify beneficiary data by name and address, clarity of incentives, compliance with standard operating procedures (SOP), and other necessary requirements.

“Opening a kitchen is not just opening it and saying ‘okay, you cook’. No. We must ensure that when it opens, the beneficiaries are clear, the by-name-by-address data is clear, the incentives are clear, and the SOP must also be implemented,” he said.

BGN, he continued, is also preparing agency regulations that will govern the implementation of MBG in 3T regions, including provisions on governance and sanctions.

Sudaryono said strengthening the regulatory foundation is necessary so that every SPPG can operate with clear governance.

“Why aren’t we opening them now? Because we want to ensure that the governance is sorted out first,” he said.

In the activation process, BGN will prioritise kitchens whose construction has been completed and which then meet the established stages and requirements, including the signing of cooperation agreements (PKS).

Sudaryono also asked partners who have newly received SPPG locations but have not yet completed construction to refrain from continuing construction until the mapping and priority-setting process is complete.

“We will ensure that what is activated is what has been completed and fully resolved. Then there will be requirements, the signing of PKS and so on, which will follow the subsequent procedures,” he explained.

In addition to 3T regions, BGN will map other areas that still have schools and beneficiaries who have not yet received MBG services.

Sudaryono said BGN has received various service requests from school principals, students, and parents through letters and other communication channels.

Therefore, BGN will also activate SPPG units in phases in non-3T regions that are deemed to still need MBG services after mapping and fulfilling requirements.
