BGN Temporarily Suspends Free Nutritious Meal Operations at Several West Java Schools Following Mount Anak Krakatau Eruption
Jakarta, VIVA – The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has temporarily suspended the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme at several schools in West Java.
Head of BGN’s Legal and Public Relations Bureau, Khairul Hidayati, said the decision follows school policies implementing distance learning (PJJ) after being affected by volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau.
As of 7 September 2026, a number of schools have implemented PJJ. In West Java Province, the areas applying PJJ include Bogor City, Bogor Regency, Cianjur Regency, Sukabumi City, Depok City and Purwakarta Regency.
“We continue to monitor developments and coordinate with regional governments,” said Hida in a statement on Monday, 7 September 2026.
“MBG operations will be adjusted again once conditions permit and face-to-face learning resumes,” she added.
As for Sukabumi Regency, Hida said the current advisory is still limited to the use of face masks.
Nevertheless, she said BGN continues to coordinate with regional governments and the relevant schools to determine MBG operations.
For information, the PJJ policy refers to Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture Number 33 of 2019 on Disaster-Safe Education Units, as well as Circular Letter of the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Number 1 of 2026 on Learning in Emergency Situations.
Besides West Java, provinces implementing PJJ are Lampung, Banten and Jakarta.
