BGN Suspends Nutrition Service Unit That Provided Whole Young Coconuts for MBG
DEPUTY Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Nanik Sudaryati Deyang said the BGN has temporarily suspended the nutrition service fulfillment unit (SPPG) that provided whole coconuts for the free nutritious meals (MBG) menu at State Elementary School 001 Muara Badak, Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan.
“The kitchen has been suspended for one week,” said Nanik when asked for confirmation on Sunday, 15 February 2026.
During the suspension period, the free meals service for the school will be taken over by another SPPG. Nanik said the SPPG’s operations were suspended for violating the menu technical guidelines. She noted that whole coconuts are not included in the MBG menu guidelines.
Head of SPPG Gas Alam Badak 1, Alih Tugas Abdi, clarified the video showing the distribution of MBG in the form of whole young coconuts to students at SDN 001 Muara Badak. The distribution of whole young coconuts had previously gone viral on social media.
Based on the circulating video, an MBG delivery vehicle bearing the label “SPPG MA BADAK” could be seen. The covered pickup truck was carrying dozens of young coconuts, which were then distributed to students one by one by teachers.
Abdi explained that the circulating video did not show the complete menu provided by his communal kitchen. He said there was a misunderstanding among the public as a result of the video.
“The video was misinterpreted, as if the only fruit the students received was young coconut,” he said in a video statement uploaded to the account @sppg_gasalambadak1, as quoted on Sunday, 15 February 2026.
Abdi stated that his kitchen provides two types of menus: dry and wet. The dry menu consists of whole young coconut, ambon bread, eggs, and milk. Meanwhile, the wet menu includes white rice, eggs in soy sauce, fried tofu in batter, stir-fried carrots and corn, and watermelon.
However, Abdi acknowledged that whole young coconut is not a common item served in the free nutritious meals program, and as such, it affected public perception.
“For the viral video incident resulting from the menu we provided, my staff and I sincerely apologize,” he said.
Abdi said the communal kitchen he manages will improve its menu planning system for the free nutritious meals. “And going forward, we will be more careful in running this program,” he said.
