The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has temporarily closed 62 nutrition service units (SPPG) during Ramadan because the free nutritious meals (MBG) served failed to meet established standards. BGN Head Dadan Hindayana explained that the closures were implemented after menus were found to be substandard in both quality and suitability.

“We have temporarily halted the operations of 62 SPPG because they do not comply with menu presentation standards. This remains our priority to continue providing guidance,” said Dadan on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.

Dadan noted that this figure represents only a small fraction of the total SPPG units operating nationally. BGN applies a graduated sanctions mechanism for violations, starting from warnings and extending to temporary closure. Partners that have received sanctions are still given opportunities to make improvements. “If violations continue to recur, we do not rule out permanent closure,” he asserted.

Additionally, temporary closures have also been applied to SPPG units that have not yet met administrative and technical requirements, such as adequate supporting facilities. BGN emphasises that its primary focus is currently on guidance and improving service quality. However, if violations are discovered that can be substantiated legally, further legal proceedings remain possible.

To support oversight, BGN has opened a 24-hour public complaints service accessible through various communication channels. Every complaint received will be followed up in accordance with applicable procedures. “We want to ensure that all beneficiaries receive adequate and quality services,” he said.
