BGN says shattered glass at headquarters caused by thermal expansion

Jakarta - Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Agustina Arumsari has stated that an incident involving shattered glass at the BGN headquarters in Kebon Sirih, Menteng, Central Jakarta, was caused by thermal expansion. When confirmed via text message from Jakarta on Thursday, Agustina dismissed allegations of a shooting that had circulated in some mass media and on social media. “There was shattered glass, but the cause is still being checked, it seems due to expansion, the glass outside is exposed to heat and inside it is cold, with air conditioning,” she said. Agustina stressed that as of Thursday afternoon, employees were working as usual and there was no evacuation policy. “We are working as usual,” she said. Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Commissioner Reynold EP Hutagalung also denied there had been a shooting at the office. Based on information received from the building manager, incidents of glass shattering in the building often occur during the dry season. The building manager, Martin, also said the shattering of glass at the BGN building was not a new occurrence, as similar incidents have happened several times since 2018 and are suspected to be caused by thermal expansion. In the building, Martin said, at least once every one to two years there is cracked or shattered glass, such as on the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th floors, which have previously shattered and been simultaneously replaced because they continue to experience expansion.
