BGN redirects free nutritious meal distribution in Tangerang during remote learning

Tangerang Regency (ANTARA) — The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) for Tangerang Regency, Banten, has redirected the distribution of Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) menus for school pupils during the implementation of remote learning following the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau.

Priyo Basuki, Coordinator of the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) for Tangerang Regency, said in Tangerang on Monday that of the 316 SPPG units, the MBG menus have been redirected to local residents, Islamic boarding school students (santri) and orphanage occupants.

“Because the raw ingredients had already been ordered, they were redirected to local residents and orphanages, and SPPG volunteers were asked to take them home to share with relatives and neighbours,” he said.

“The redirection is also intended to minimise any unwanted incidents,” Priyo Basuki added.

Beyond distribution to school pupils, the provision of MBG to other beneficiary groups such as the elderly, infants, breastfeeding mothers and pregnant women has been temporarily suspended.

Priyo explained that the MBG distributed by the SPPG comes in two forms: ready-to-eat meals and food ingredients. “So it is split in two — some is partly cooked, and some consists of raw ingredients,” he said.
