Magetan - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has instructed the Nutrition Service Units (SPPG), particularly in Magetan Regency, East Java, to purchase chicken eggs directly from farmers to boost plummeting prices.

“From today, I instruct all SPPG units, especially in Magetan, to buy chicken eggs directly from farmers. If not, the kitchen will be shut down,” said Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, Deputy Head of BGN’s Public Communication and Investigation Division, in Magetan on Monday.

She stated that the measure was implemented to raise the plummeting selling price of eggs for layer chicken farmers in Magetan.

“This is because prices have risen at the market level but not at the farm level, leaving farmers in losses,” she said during the “People’s Economic Synergy, Empowerment Strategy for Farmers and SMEs in Supporting Free Nutritious Food” event in Magetan.

Therefore, the agency has instructed SPPG to no longer purchase eggs for the Free Nutritious Food (MBG) programme from suppliers, but directly from farmers to provide support and benefits, as they have been incurring losses for the past month due to falling prices.

It has given SPPG heads a two-week deadline to raise egg prices to a viable level by purchasing directly from farmers.

At the event, Nanik S Deyang was accompanied by Magetan Regent Nanik Endang, local military and police leaders, and heads of relevant regional agencies.
