Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, stated that SPPG 15 Pulo Gebang in East Jakarta does not possess a Hygiene and Sanitation Certificate (SLHS) and a Wastewater Treatment Installation (IPAL). Nanik made this statement during an inspection on Sunday night (10/5) at the SPPG, which serves Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) in the form of Javanese Noodles, suspected to have caused 147 children to experience digestive disturbances on Friday (8/5). “The kitchen or SPPG that caused the digestive issues apparently lacks SLHS, does not have its own IPAL (the IPAL is still shared or in the adjacent kitchen), and incredibly, has no place to wash cooking utensils,” Nanik said on the official Instagram accounts @nanik_deyang and @sidakbgn, quoted from Jakarta on Tuesday. Nanik also discovered that the SPPG 15 Pulo Gebang in East Jakarta belongs to one individual (one foundation) that operates two kitchens. During the inspection, Nanik found that SPPG 15 Pulo Gebang does not use water gallons with Indonesian National Standards (SNI) as recommended by BGN. “I couldn’t imagine it: two kitchens, one washing area for cooking utensils, no steaming for utensils—how unhygienic it must be. Even worse, they are not using SNI-certified water gallons as recommended by BGN headquarters,” she explained. Nanik also noted that 33 students who experienced digestive issues were hospitalised but were discharged to their homes on Monday (11/5). “Because noodles often cause digestive problems, we at BGN headquarters have actually issued a circular advising against cooking noodles unless there is a skilled chef who fully masters the techniques to prevent them from spoiling quickly. We have also disseminated this through regional heads and area coordinators,” Nanik stated. It is known that on Friday (8/5), students suffered digestive issues after consuming Javanese Noodles, shredded chicken, steamed tofu wontons, blanched bean sprouts, cucumber, tomato, crispy mushrooms, and watermelon.
