BGN Head Requests Senior Prosecutor to Head Central Inspectorate
The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has partnered with the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) to strengthen oversight of the Free Nutritious Meal programme. BGN head Dadan Hindayana revealed that he has requested the Attorney General to assign an echelon 2 official from the Attorney General’s Office to fill a position in the BGN Inspectorate.
“I have also requested a component from the Attorney General’s Office to be assigned to become one of the officials at the National Nutrition Agency, which we are requesting to strengthen the BGN team at the central level. That is what I discussed with the Attorney General and also with the Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence,” Dadan said at the Attorney General’s office in Jakarta on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.
Dadan explained that personnel from the Attorney General’s Office would focus on internal oversight functions. However, he kept the identity of the person who would fill the position confidential.
“Especially in the Inspectorate, from echelon 2, yes. For now, one person. Later, after the appointment, I will announce it,” he added.
BGN’s decision to recruit a prosecutor to its internal ranks was not without reason. Dadan revealed that 93 per cent of the BGN’s budget is channelled directly to regional levels through Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG).
Currently, there are 25,570 SPPG units throughout Indonesia. Dadan noted that the money circulation at each SPPG point is very large, reaching billions of rupiah.
“Each SPPG on average in Java and Sumatra receives one billion rupiah per month. Except for areas with high costs such as Papua and eastern regions, which can be above that,” Dadan explained.
Given the substantial funds managed directly in the field, Dadan believed that strict oversight from legal authorities was essential. In addition to placing an official at the central level, BGN is partnering with the Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence to monitor fund distribution down to village level.
“We discussed additional oversight mechanisms so that components of the Attorney General’s Office in villages also monitor the use of the SPPG budget throughout Indonesia,” he emphasised.
Dadan also warned all SPPG partner managers not to misuse the budget. He requested that funds be managed transparently and in accordance with applicable technical guidelines.
“Use it as optimally as possible, as transparently as possible for the free nutritious meal programme,” he concluded.
